Pull up your plumbing website and look at your services page. Is everything on it? Leaks, drains, water heaters, repipes, remodels, all in one list? Most plumbing sites look like that. It is the main reason they do not rank for anything.
Here is the problem. A homeowner standing in an inch of water types “emergency plumber near me.” A homeowner planning a new bathroom types “bathroom plumbing remodel cost.” Google treats those as two different questions, because they are. One page cannot be the best answer to both.
What the emergency searcher wants
Speed. That is almost all of it. They want to know you answer the phone right now, you can come today, and you will not make the mess worse. The words they use: emergency, burst, leak, flooding, clogged, overflowing, 24 hour, near me, tonight.
Your emergency page should open with a phone number and a plain promise about response time, if you can keep it. Then a short list of what you fix on the first visit: burst pipes, backed-up drains, overflowing toilets, water heater leaks, gas smells. A line about pricing, even just “we tell you the price before we start,” calms a scared person down.
What the remodel searcher wants
Confidence. This is a planned, five-figure decision, and they are going to read. The words they use: cost, how long, moving a toilet, adding a shower, permits, rough-in, licensed, reviews.
Your remodel page should answer those in order. A cost range for your area. How long the plumbing part takes. What needs a permit. Photos of finished bathrooms and kitchens you plumbed, with the neighborhood named. Your license number. This page is longer, and it earns the bigger jobs.
Two funnels, two pages, two phone scripts
The emergency caller wants a time. The remodel caller wants a visit and a quote. Train whoever answers the phone to hear the difference in the first sentence. Then put the right page in front of each one. You need these, each on its own URL:
- Emergency plumbing (burst pipes, floods, backups, 24-hour)
- Drain cleaning (its own search, and one of the busiest)
- Water heaters (repair and replacement, covered in the water heater guide)
- Remodel and repipe plumbing (bathroom, kitchen, whole-house repipe)
Each page links to the other three. Each one has the word in the page title, the first heading and the first sentence. That is not a trick. It is how you tell Google which question the page answers.
Put the price question on both pages
Both searchers are scared of the same thing: a surprise bill. The emergency caller is afraid of a trip fee that turns into a thousand dollars. The remodel caller is afraid of a quote that doubles halfway through. You do not have to list every price. You have to say how pricing works. “We give you the price before we start. You approve it. Then we work.” One sentence like that, near the top of each page, gets more calls than any photo.
If you do have standard prices, a drain clearing, a toilet swap, a water heater install, put a range on the page. The plumber who shows a number looks honest. The plumber who hides it looks like he is waiting to see what you can afford.
The map listing needs the split too
Your Google Business Profile, the free listing that shows on the map, has a services section. List emergency plumbing and remodel plumbing as separate services there, with a sentence for each. Google uses that list to decide which searches your listing fits. The Google listing guide walks through the whole thing.
The holiday rush is an emergency search too
Drains back up the day after Thanksgiving. Garbage disposals die when the house is full of guests. A cold snap in Florida sends people searching for “pipe burst” who have never thought about pipes before. Those are emergency searches, and the emergency page catches them. It needs to be live and ranking before the holiday, not written during it.
How to tell if you have this problem
Search “emergency plumber” plus your city, then “bathroom remodel plumber” plus your city. If the same page of yours shows up for both, or neither shows up at all, you are sending two searches to one page. Split them. It is the fastest ranking win in plumbing, and it usually takes one afternoon.
Want this done for you?
I run a plumbing site in Tampa Bay myself, and splitting the emergency page from everything else was the first thing I did. If you want me to look at yours, the audit is free and I send it the same business day.
