Open your firm's website. Is there one page called “Services” that lists tax prep, bookkeeping, payroll and advisory in one long paragraph? Most accounting sites do this. It is the main reason they do not show up on Google.
Here is why. A family with a W-2 and a shoebox of receipts types “tax preparer near me.” A business owner who is three months behind on QuickBooks types “bookkeeper near me.” A doctor setting up an S-corp types “CPA near me.” Google treats those as three different questions, because they are. One page cannot be the best answer to all three.
What the tax preparer searcher wants
Speed, price and a real person. They want to know what a simple return costs, whether they can drop off papers or do it online, and how fast you turn it around. The words they use: tax preparer, tax prep, file my taxes, near me, cost, deadline.
Your tax prep page should open with a plain price range, how to send documents, and how long it takes. A photo of the person who will do the return helps more than you think.
What the bookkeeper searcher wants
Relief. This person is behind and a little embarrassed. The words they use: bookkeeper, bookkeeping services, QuickBooks, catch up, monthly, small business.
Your bookkeeping page should say what you do each month, what software you use, what it costs per month, and that you can clean up a backlog without judgment. Say that last part in plain words. It is the sentence that gets the call.
What the CPA searcher wants
Proof. This is usually a business owner or a high earner with a real problem: an S-corp election, a sale, a letter from the IRS. The words they use: CPA, certified public accountant, tax planning, S-corp, IRS letter.
Your CPA page should lead with your license, your years in practice, the kinds of clients you serve, and two or three problems you solve often. This page earns the biggest clients, so it should be your longest.
Three pages, not thirty
You do not need a page for every tax form. You need these, each on its own address:
- Tax preparation (individuals, price range, how to send documents)
- Bookkeeping (monthly service, software, catch-up work)
- CPA services (tax planning, business structure, IRS help)
- One page per niche you serve (dentists, contractors, real estate investors), covered in the niche pages guide
Each page links to the others. Each one has its main word in the page title, the first heading and the first sentence. That is not a trick. It is how you tell Google which question the page answers.
How to tell if you have this problem
Search “tax preparer” plus your city. Then “bookkeeper” plus your city. Then “CPA” plus your city. If the same page of yours shows up for all three, or none of them, you are sending three searches to one page. Split them. It usually takes one afternoon, and it is the fastest ranking win in accounting.
Once the pages exist, the next step is the map box, which the Google Business Profile guide covers.
What goes at the top of each page
The first screen of each page does most of the work, because most people never scroll. On a phone, the first screen should show the main words in a heading, one sentence about who the page is for, a price range or a starting price, your phone number, and a short form. Everything else goes below.
Here is a simple test. Hand your phone to a friend, open the bookkeeping page, and ask them to tell you in ten seconds what it costs and how to call. If they cannot, the top of the page is not done yet.
Why this helps with ChatGPT too
More people now ask an AI assistant “who is a good bookkeeper in Tampa” instead of searching Google. The assistant looks for pages that plainly say “bookkeeping services in Tampa” and explain what they cost. A page that says exactly what it is gets named. A services page that says everything gets skipped. The same split that wins the Google search wins the AI answer.
Want this done for you?
I run an accounting lead site in Tampa Bay myself, and splitting these searches into separate pages was the first thing I did. If you want me to look at your firm's site, the audit is free and I send it the same business day.
