Engagement Season SEO:
Rank Before the Ring.

The proposals come in a wave. The searches come right behind them. Be ready first.

SEASON

Wedding photography has a season nobody talks about, and it is not wedding season. It is engagement season. A big share of proposals happen in the stretch from Thanksgiving through Valentine's Day. Each one turns into a search within a few days: “wedding photographer [city],” “wedding photographer cost,” “engagement photos near me.”

Those searches book the weddings for the following year. Google does not stop to figure out who the best photographer is in December. It shows whoever was already ranking. That is the whole lesson. The work has to be done before the ring.

The timeline, backwards

  • December and January: the surge. Couples search, compare, inquire. You should be answering emails, not building pages.
  • September and October: the last chance to add pages and still have them rank in time. Google needs weeks to find a new page, trust it and place it.
  • Summer: the best time to build. Shoot weddings on the weekend, build venue gallery pages during the week.
  • Spring: fix the listing, collect reviews from the fall and winter weddings, and plan what to build.

What to have ready by November

Four things. Your city wedding page, finished, with a price range. Your Google Business Profile, the free listing on the map, full of real photos and fresh reviews. Your venue gallery pages for the venues couples are booking right now. And a page for engagement sessions, because many newly engaged couples want that first.

The engagement session page is the front door

Newly engaged couples are excited and want photos now, before the wedding is even planned. A page titled Engagement Photos in [City] with your favorite spots, what to wear, and a price catches them in the first week. Book the engagement session, and the wedding usually follows. Say that on the page: “Most of my wedding couples start here.”

Add a short section on the best time of year to shoot. In Florida, that is the cooler months, which happen to be engagement season. In colder places, it may be spring. Either way, couples are asking.

Post about availability

In December and January, post on your Google listing and your site: “Now booking fall 2027. These months are filling.” Couples who see that a photographer is filling up act faster. It is honest, and it works. Do not fake it. If you have plenty of dates, say “now booking” and leave it there.

Use the slow months to collect proof

Summer in Florida is slow for weddings. That is when you go back through the spring galleries and ask every couple who has not left a review yet. It is also when you email venue coordinators with the finished gallery pages and ask to be on their recommended list. None of that shows up on your site right away. All of it shows up in December, when Google decides who to show and couples decide who to trust.

Check your own search in October

Before the wave, search your own city on your phone. “Wedding photographer [city].” “Engagement photos [city].” “[Venue name] wedding.” Write down where you show up for each. That is your starting line. If a page is close, a few more reviews or links can move it before December. If a page is nowhere, it is probably too late for this season, and you build it anyway, for next year.

Watch the second wave

There is a smaller wave after the holidays, when couples who got engaged at Christmas finish telling family and get serious in late January and February. And there is a quiet, steady trickle all year from couples who got engaged on a trip or a birthday. The pages you build serve all of them. The season just tells you when to be finished.

What to do in the surge

If the pages exist, the surge is simple. Answer every inquiry the same day, because couples email five photographers at once and often book the first one who replies with a real answer about their date. Keep the review routine going after every winter wedding. Do not redesign the site in December. The ranking work was done in the summer. Now you just pick up the phone.

I run a wedding photography site in Tampa Bay, so I have watched the December wave hit a site that was ready and one that was not. If you want me to check whether yours is ready for the next one, the audit is free.
