01 — Campaign Anatomy

What a Real SEO Campaign Contains.

RESEARCH

Keywords With Names

Real keyword research produces a target list — the exact Tampa searches, volumes and current positions. If the firm can't show you the list, there is no seo campaign, just activity.

ON-PAGE

Pages, Meta Tags, Internal Links

Every target search maps to a page: title and meta tags tuned for the google search snippet, content that earns the click, internal link paths routing authority where it converts.

OFF-PAGE

Profile & Link Building

Google Business Profile work that wins local searches, plus link building from real sites — the two signal families that decide ties in Tampa's contested search results.

02 — Who You Work With

Run Every Test on This Page Against Me.

Connor Cedro, SEO consultant

Hey, I'm Connor. I'm a SEMrush-certified SEO consultant in Tampa, and this page exists because the firm-vetting process in this market is broken: prospects compare websites and vibes instead of verifiable results. So here's the verification playbook I'd want my own family using — and an open invitation to run every test on me. My rankings are public, my case studies name real Tampa Bay businesses with real numbers, and my free audit shows you my actual thinking on your actual site before a dollar changes hands. That's what a track record looks like when it doesn't need adjectives.

04 — The Verification Tests

Five-Minute Checks That Expose Most Firms.

TEST 1

Google the Firm's Own Terms

Search the services they sell — does the firm rank for its own market? An seo company in Tampa that can't surface for its own trade is telling you its ceiling.

TEST 2

Pull a Case Study's Data

Take a named client from their site and check its visibility in any SEO tool. Real results leave public traces; unnamed "a local business grew 300%" stories exist because checking would end the sale.

TEST 3

Ask for Last Month's Links

Request the actual link placements built for a current client in the last 30 days. Real firms show URLs; link-scheme firms change the subject to "domain metrics."

08 — In Depth

The Full Verification Playbook.

Firm, agency, company — ignore the noun

Tampa's providers market themselves as an SEO firm, a tampa seo agency, a digital marketing agency, a boutique consultancy — and the noun predicts nothing. What predicts outcomes is the delivery model underneath: who personally touches your account, what they've verifiably ranked, and whether their marketing services are built around search engine optimization or around retainer retention. This page's tests work identically on all of them, including me. The noun is branding; the verification is due diligence.

Start where they can't hide: their own visibility

An SEO firm's own search presence is its least fakeable credential. Search the services and markets they claim, check what their domain actually ranks for in any SEO tool, and look at trajectory — growing, flat, or decaying. Perfection isn't the bar; a firm can be excellent and still lose some head terms in a market this contested. The disqualifier is absence: a provider with no meaningful footprint for its own trade is asking you to buy a service its own results say it can't perform. This test takes five minutes and eliminates a third of the market.

Interrogate the case studies like a buyer, not an audience

Real case studies have three properties: a named client, specific numbers, and public verifiability — you can look the domain up yourself and watch the story confirm. Treat everything else as decoration. Percentages without baselines (traffic up 400% — from forty visits?), anonymous local business testimonials, and screenshots with the client cropped out all exist for the same reason: verification would complicate the sale. When a Tampa firm shows you a deck, pick one slide and pull the data live in the meeting. How they react to that request tells you as much as the data does.

Audit the deliverables list for verbs that mean nothing

Weak retainers hide inside soft verbs: optimize, monitor, manage, enhance. Strong ones commit to nouns and numbers — how many pages built against which searches, how many links at what quality bar, which meta tags and internal link structures changed and why, what google business profile work ships weekly. Before signing anything, ask the firm to translate every soft verb in the proposal into a countable deliverable. Legitimate seo strategies survive that translation intact; padding evaporates. The ones that resist the exercise have told you exactly what month six will feel like.

Check the link building before it checks you

Nothing in local seo services carries more hidden risk than links. Demand to see actual placements built for a current client in the last thirty days — real URLs on real sites with real traffic — and run a few through any backlink tool. Private blog networks, spun guest posts and marketplace links look identical to real work in a monthly report and can cost you rankings for a year when Google reweights. A firm proud of its links shows them instantly. A firm that answers with domain-authority averages is describing a spreadsheet, not a marketing strategy.

Demand reporting that survives your own data

The final structural test: reporting standards. You should keep ownership of Search Console, Analytics and your Business Profile; the firm's numbers should reconcile against yours; and the monthly report should tie work to named targets to movement to leads — not to impressions, sessions, or social media marketing vanity lines. Ask to see a real (redacted) client report before signing. If it doesn't answer what did you do, what moved, and what did it produce in plain English, that's the report you'll be squinting at in month nine, wondering.

What this playbook finds when you run it on me

Public rankings for competitive Tampa searches, built on the same domain you're reading. Named case studies — a luxury jeweler scaled to 11.5K monthly visitors, a Tampa Bay MSP rebuilt page by page — you can verify in any tool tonight. A free audit that shows my actual analysis of your site before any engagement. Month-to-month terms at every tier, because the verification never stops: each month's numbers re-earn the next. Run the tests on every firm on your shortlist. I built my whole practice to win exactly that comparison.

09 — Common Questions

Questions Before You Book.

How do I verify an SEO firm's track record?

Check the firm's own rankings, pull its named case studies in an SEO tool, ask for last month's actual link placements, and request a real sample report. Five minutes each.

What should a Tampa SEO firm cost?

Legitimate Tampa campaigns run $1,000–$4,000+ monthly by competitiveness. My tiers are $1,250, $2,500 and $4,000, matched to your site's authority.

What's the difference between an SEO firm and an agency?

Branding. The real variables are who executes, what they've verifiably ranked, and how they report — this page's tests work on every label.

What's the biggest red flag when hiring?

Unverifiable proof: anonymous case studies, percentages without baselines, and refusal to show recent link placements or a sample report.

Do you guarantee rankings?

No honest provider does — Google decides rankings. What I guarantee is named deliverables, transparent reporting, and terms that let you leave if results don't justify staying.

Do you require a contract?

No. Month-to-month at every tier, starting with a free audit delivered the same business day.
