Your WordPress Site
Can Rank. Here's What's Stopping It.

Most Tampa business sites run on WordPress, and most of them carry the same five problems: a heavy theme, too many plugins, slow hosting, a half-configured SEO plugin, and a structure nobody planned.

01 — The Opportunity

Where WordPress Sites Lose Rankings.

SPEED

Themes and Plugins Add Up

Page-builder themes, slider plugins and unoptimized images push mobile load times past what Google tolerates. Core Web Vitals fail, and the site pays for it in every ranking.

CONFIGURATION

The SEO Plugin Isn't Set Up

Yoast or Rank Math installed is not Yoast or Rank Math configured. Duplicate titles, indexed tag archives, missing schema and wrong canonicals are the default state.

STRUCTURE

Posts Instead of Pages

Sites built by publishing blog posts and hoping. The service pages that should rank are thin or missing, and the blog buries the money pages three clicks deep.

02 — Who You Work With

WordPress SEO From Someone Who Lives in It.

Connor Cedro, SEO consultant

Hey, I'm Connor. I work in WordPress every week — mine, my clients', and the sites I audit — so I know exactly where local WordPress builds break. The fixes are rarely exotic: a lighter theme or the right caching, images done properly, plugins pruned to the ones that earn their load, the SEO plugin actually configured, schema that validates, and a page structure that gives every Tampa search a real landing place. I'm SEMrush-certified with an MBA from SMU Cox, based in Tampa, and I do the work myself or brief your developer precisely. Direct, month-to-month, free audit first.

03 — What You Get

What WordPress SEO Includes.

PERFORMANCE

Core Web Vitals on WordPress

Theme, hosting, caching, image and script fixes measured on real phones — not a score from a plugin that hides the problem.

CONFIGURATION

SEO Plugin Done Right

Titles, metas, canonicals, index rules for archives and tags, sitemaps, breadcrumbs and schema — configured once, correctly.

STRUCTURE

Pages That Deserve to Rank

Service and location pages built as real pages, internal linking that surfaces them, and a blog that supports them instead of burying them.

Service and location pages, schema, content and links on a platform that no longer fights them.

The WordPress Playbook.

LIGHTEN

Fewer Plugins, Lighter Theme

Every plugin is a request and a risk. Pruning to the ones that earn their load — and picking a theme built for speed — fixes more than any optimization plugin.

CONFIGURE

Index Only What Should Rank

Tag archives, author pages, attachment pages and paginated feeds bloat the index. Noindex the noise so Google spends its crawl on the money pages.

STRUCTURE

Pages Over Posts

Build service and location pages as real pages with real depth. Use the blog to support them, not to substitute for them.

07 — In Depth

The Five WordPress Problems, in Detail.

Theme weight and Core Web Vitals

Page-builder themes ship with every feature a designer might want and load most of them on every page. On a Tampa visitor's phone over a cellular connection, that is the difference between a page that loads in two seconds and one that loads in six. Core Web Vitals — the speed and stability metrics Google measures in the field — fail, and the site pays in rankings and in visitors who leave before the hero renders. The fixes are lighter themes, server-level caching, properly sized images in modern formats, and scripts deferred until content is visible. I measure before and after in Search Console, where Google reads the result.

Plugin sprawl

Agencies install plugins to close tickets; nobody removes them. Thirty plugins is common; each adds requests, scripts, update risk and conflict surface. The audit inventories what each one does and whether anything depends on it. Most sites drop a third of their plugins with no visible change and a measurable speed gain — and fewer breaking updates.

The unconfigured SEO plugin

Installing Yoast or Rank Math is the beginning, not the end. Left at defaults, WordPress indexes tag archives, author pages, media attachment pages and date archives — thousands of thin URLs competing with the pages that matter. Titles duplicate, canonicals point wherever the theme decided, and schema is either missing or generic. Configuring the plugin properly takes an afternoon and changes what Google spends its crawl on.

Structure built by accident

Most local WordPress sites grew by adding posts. The result is a blog with a hundred articles and four service pages with two paragraphs each. Google ranks the pages that answer the search, and a two-paragraph service page doesn't. Rebuilding the structure — real service pages, real location pages, internal links that surface them from the navigation and footer — is the highest-return content work on most Tampa WordPress sites.

Hosting that undercuts everything

Shared hosting sold on price puts a Tampa business site on a server with hundreds of others. Server response time — the first number in every performance measurement — becomes the ceiling no optimization can beat. Moving to hosting matched to the site's traffic is often the single largest speed gain available, and it costs less per month than one hour of optimization work.

What WordPress SEO won't fix

A clean, fast, well-structured WordPress site with nothing to say still won't rank. The platform work removes the obstacles; content and authority do the climbing. I'll tell you which you need, and in what order, on the audit call — sometimes the answer is that the site is fine and the pages are the problem.

08 — Common Questions

Questions Before You Book.

Is WordPress good for SEO?

Yes, when it's configured and maintained. The platform is capable; the common builds — heavy themes, plugin sprawl, unconfigured SEO plugins, no page structure — are what hold Tampa sites back.

Which SEO plugin should I use?

Yoast or Rank Math both work when configured correctly. The choice matters far less than turning off the archive indexing, setting canonicals and schema, and writing real titles.

Can you speed up my WordPress site?

Usually substantially — theme, caching, images, scripts and hosting are where the seconds hide. I measure in Search Console's Core Web Vitals report so the gain shows where Google reads it.

Do you work with Elementor and Divi sites?

Yes. Page builders can be made fast with the right settings and discipline; the work is knowing which features to disable and which images and scripts to fix.

Will you break my site?

Changes are staged and backed up, and I test on a copy before touching production. Plugin removals are checked for dependencies first.

What does WordPress SEO cost in Tampa?

Platform fixes often run as a one-time project; ongoing SEO fits the $1,250 to $4,000 monthly tiers. The free audit tells you which you need. Month-to-month.
